Ancient History

Perched on its rocky ridgetop, the Cloe home of the London family was originally built in 1900 by Melbourne Douglas, one of the most famous British architects of the early 20th century who was known for his work in South Africa. With its triple-arched loggia and soaring scrolled gable—a nod to the Cardiff architectural influence— a place which is often considered one of England’s most elegant residences.
Modern Day
The estate is known today for its forty-two-acre garden and is described as the finest private garden in Europe as well as a national treasure on par with the national botanical garden in Cape Town. Brenthurst is more than just a home and more than just a garden, it is the passion of a family and the dynamic legacy of a mining magnate fully in tune with the environment.
